Inspiration in the Studio

Celebrating Family Traditions at Whisk!

Our team celebrated the holidays this week with a special cooking event at Whisk!  Our chef-instructors, Joan and Kim (who happen to be special clients too), put their hearts and souls into the preparations.

The theme of the evening was Timeless Traditions. Joan and Kim created the menu from the family traditions of each of our team members:

Signature Cocktail from Crista

Christmas Crackers from Martha

Shrimp Cocktail and Oysters Rockefeller from Laura’s Feast of the Seven Fishes

Swedish Meatballs from Erica

Pierogies from Vicky’s Polish Wigilia (married into the tradition)

Buche de Noel from Julia

The evening wouldn’t be complete without a little competition.  As we know, presentation is everything in design and the same principles apply to plating food.  After a bit of instruction (oh, and blindfolds too), the teams got to work and the results were impressive!

From our family to yours, wishing you a holiday season filled with family and festivities!

Holiday Festivities and Everything Merry!

The holiday spirit was alive at the studio this week! We decided to deviate from our annual Christmas dinner and instead experience a new kind of creative challenge by taking a cooking class at the newly opened Whisk. Our significant others joined us for a wonderful evening of delicious recipes and a little competition too!

Let’s just say that it was a friendly competition with LOTS of great laughs (and a little wine too). Martha bonded with the lobster before it found its way into the Lobster Bisque. Jessica and Vicki tended to the needs of the Danish Onion Soup.  What a menu….Cosmic Crunch Endive, Gilled Tenderloin with Guasacaca, Nutty Quinoa Salad, Danish Onion Soup with Champagne, Classic Lobster Bisque, and Honeyed Mascarpone and Gingerbread Parfaits!  It was over-the-top delicious and so fun too!

We’re so thankful for our Chef Instructor, Kim, along with her Assistants, Joan and Laurie!  It was Kim’s idea and generous offer to create the unique evening for our team during a visit to our studio….lucky us!  Thank you for making our holiday celebration extra-special!

We had a few projects this week that required some special Christmas attention too! This bonus room design was wrapped with brown paper and tied up with string and will be under the tree on Christmas morning. What a great family gift!

We ended the week with a stroll down Salem Street to share a quick lunch together (a real treat that doesn’t happen often enough). At the beginning of 2013, we decided to focus on the positive and save the thoughtful notes we receive from clients throughout the year. Since so much of what we do is custom for each project and pushes the creative limits, it means that there’s lots of room for custom challenges (AKA problems). It’s often said that 90% of our work is project management and 10% is design….and there’s a lot of truth in that ratio. Part of our job is to make it look easy and gracefully produce interiors that are functional and beautiful for our clients. The real truth is that we are often sweating bullets and jumping through hoops behind the scenes. So today, we celebrated the positive and it was so nice to reminisce. A few favorites…

I feel like you guys blessed my home with love.

I love our bathrooms! It has been one year since they were completed and still look brand new! You are amazing!

Thank you for all of our continued hard work. We can’t thank you enough. It’s absolutely amazing.

Thank you so much for making my aging home new again! We’re reminded how special you are each time someone comments “your home is beautiful!” We appreciate all the TLC!

It was the perfect way to wrap up the year and a real reminder of why we are passionate about the work we do each day. So thankful for our fantastic team (seriously, the BEST) and so thankful for fantastic clients!  We’re off to enjoy the holidays with our families and wish each of you a Christmas season filled with joy and peace!
