Inspiration in the Studio

A Sneak Peek of the Southern Living Inspired Home at the Bramble!

We are deep into the design work for the Southern Living Inspired Home at the Bramble in Fort Mill! The New Old team is working fast and furious to keep construction on schedule. It has been an incredible collaboration.

The inspiration for the home is casual elegance. We are designing the interiors to bring a new twist to the modern farmhouse style.  The home will be filled with rich texture and color.  Here’s a sneak peek of the color palette for the interior. Creams and blacks and emerald greens, mixed with natural wood, metals and stone!

We have partnered with some of the finest trades, artisans, and designers to showcase unique design trends throughout the home. Focusing on our Born and Bred in the Carolinas theme has been a highlight of the design process and we look forward to sharing a few surprises along the way.

Continue to follow our progress over the next two months as we bring this design to life. For more information, visit the Southern Living at the Bramble site. We can’t wait to meet you!

The Lazy Days of Summer...

Where did the summer go? Clearly, we’ve been focusing our energy on clients and trying to squeeze in some summer fun too….and neglecting this blog.  It’s time to catch up with a quick recap of our happenings in the studio (aka dumping our Instagram photos)!

We’ve been spending quite a bit of time on construction sites. Between remodels and new construction, there’s so many details to design.

aug7

To make sure we get it just right, a mini-home sample wall of the exterior materials is helpful.

aug12

This gorgeous oval framed room will soon be a gorgeous dining room. We can’t wait to bring this one to life!

aug10

We could not do our job without the help of our vendor partners and reps!  We were so thankful when the Kellex mobile showroom came to our parking lot!

aug9

And, when our Kravet rep arrived with the long-awaiting Kate Spade introductions, we were thrilled. There never seems to be enough fabric and trim…it makes no sense.

aug2

Our work often takes us on the road and on planes and on ferries.  It takes some juggling, but the challenges are part of the fun.

aug13

Shaw Floors wined and dined us at the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival in Atlanta. We so appreciate the Designer Network for the opportunity.

aug5

And, another trip to market in Atlanta included a nighttime ride on the ferris wheel!

aug8

Martha and I spent a weekend absorbing great inspiration at the Interior Design Summit in Denver. We’re so thankful for this group!

aug11

The biggest highlight of our summer was our incredible intern, Annie. She could teach a class on hard work, positive attitude and excellence. It was hard to say goodbye as she returned to school…

aug6

…just like it’s hard to say good-bye to summer (thankfully, we have a couple more weeks to enjoy). We promise to show a little more love to this blog this fall. For lots more behind-the-scenes happenings, be sure to follow us on Instagram too @southernstudio!

Home Tour of the Southern Living Inspired Home on Bald Head Island!

The Southern Living Inspired Home on Bald Head Island has certainly been a labor of love! We’ve been so fortunate to work with an incredible design and development team. Every member of this team was top-notch….from the incredibly supportive development team at Bald Head Island Limited, to the talented architects at Allison Ramsey Architects, to the award-winning building team at Whitney Blair Custom Homes! What a thrill that Whitney Blair Custom Homes was awarded a Diamond Award in the Brunswick County Parade of Homes….AND Best Interior Design too!

The Southern Living Inspired Home is open for tours every Saturday and Sunday through Thanksgiving weekend from 10a to 4p. A portion of the $10 entry fee is being donated to the Old Baldy Foundation, a non profit organization dedicated to the preservation of North Carolina’s oldest standing lighthouse. If you can’t visit the home in person, we’re happy to take you on a visual tour.

The great room is fresh and comfortable with layers of gray texture and colors of sea glass.

The kitchen cabinets are a soft blue with open shelving and a large center island for entertaining. The seating is covered in durable Sunbrella fabrics, a perfect solution that can withstand the challenges of salt and sand. The corner banquette is the perfect spot for casual dining. We love the shiplap walls and variety of pillows.

Craven3

The dining room becomes the ideal gathering spot for family meals. The mix of color and texture is inviting and playful.

Craven4

The master bedroom features a bed alcove with shiplap painted a beautiful blue. The master bath is a mix of natural textures and sleek fixtures. The private outdoor shower off the master bathroom is a personal favorite!

Craven11

Upstairs there is a second master bedroom accented with a beautiful wallcovering by Thibaut.

Craven7

Everyone loves the kids bunk room! We designed the custom built storage and closets to maximize every inch of the space.

Craven8

The outdoor sleeping porch complete with swing bed and television is the ultimate luxury.

To complete the tour, you can download the brochure for the home which includes many resources. Each and every person we met on Bald Head Island was kind beyond words and we’re so thankful for the hospitality. We’ll be back for more as the development continues….can’t wait!

Final Details at the Southern Living Inspired Home!

It’s been an island adventure for the past few weeks preparing for the opening of the Southern Living Inspired Home on Bald Head Island. We’ve been working for the past year coordinating construction details and designing the interiors….and now it’s time to bring it to life!

One of the things that make Bald Head Island special is that the island is only accessible by ferry with no cars. And so it begins…install day!

Moving an entire house full of furnishings to an island can get interesting, but we love the challenge.

bhi5

The final details for the exterior of the home…adding the screen to the sleeping porch and comfortable chairs for lounging.
bhi3

And, so many details on the inside of the house…

bhi4

The house is coming together beautifully, but nothing we could possibly create can compare to the natural beauty of this island.

One more week until showtime! We’re adding the final touches and staging for photography…and hoping that Hurricane Joaquin stays offshore. We’re ready to Roast and Toast on the Coast!

Southern Living Inspired Home on Bald Head Island! Making Progress!

It’s hard to believe that it’s the middle of July!  It’s a time for salt air and sandy feet. Well, we’ve been putting a spin on beach fun this summer! We are thrilled to be designing the Southern Living Inspired Home on Bald Head Island, North Carolina.

Craven_Final

This week was a whirlwind of travel and design decisions. Construction is progressing beautifully thanks to the hard work of the Whitney Blair Custom Homes crew. It’s a true team effort and starts with a fabulous plan by Allison Ramsey Architects.

BHI02

It was a hot July day on the island, but that didn’t stop the hammers and saws and tape measures. Kenny, the on-site Project Manager with a can-do attitude, is working hard to bring the design vision to life. This home will be perfect for coastal living and relaxing….from the sleeping porch to outdoor shower, built-in beds to banquette seating. It would be just perfect for my family (and future grandchildren). Just sayin’!

BHI03

The view from the front porch is nothing but lush with the natural beauty of live oak trees. It’s not a bad place to spend a day at work, especially when it includes a private boat ride back to the mainland from favorite clients on the island. And the next day it was off to market in Atlanta…

BHI04

….and shopping from morning ’til night. These fabulous finds might just have a ferry ride in their future.

BHI05

We often say that as interior designers we need to cover it all, from electrical plans and cabinetry layouts to window treatments and fine linens. We can’t wait to see all of the hard work come together this fall!
