Inspiration in the Studio

Simplified :: Holiday Gift Guide

This week we are simplifying your shopping for the interior design enthusiast in your life! To help you get the perfect gift for your loved ones this year our designers selected some of their go-to gift ideas (and some they would love to receive!).

In Southern Studio style, the gift packaging is just as important as the gift itself! Take care and plan the wrapping to add to your holiday decor.

And remember to shop local when you can – sometimes the best gift is found close to home!

Project Reveal :: Cary Classic, Part II

Today on the blog we are revealing Part II of our Cary Classic project! These are the secondary, yet essential spaces that make up the home. They are the unsung heroes of daily domestic life: the bathrooms, laundry room, and these days the more popular home office.

Most clients desire an elegant, calming master retreat and we feel like the results in this house were exactly that. A bold patterned bolster and window treatments are complemented by the surrounding soft color palette.

This quiet sitting area is full of cozy textures perfect for a moment of rest.

The master bathroom continues the overall color scheme with touches of metallic for a bit of glamour in the wall covering and lighting.

We added some excitement to the laundry room with our selections for wall covering and tile! Who says chores can’t be fun?

As important as home offices have become this year we really wanted to make this bright room shine! The blue walls and patterend window treatments make a statement for your next zoom background.

We so enjoyed this Cary renovation for a beautiful family! We hope we’ve given you inspiration for making a classic design timeless, yet fun!

Winter Wonderland :: Check out FLOWER magazine!

We are so excited to share!  Last year (yes, we’ve had to wait an entire year to share), our gracious clients and friends gave us creative freedom to turn their beautiful home into a winter wonderland … southern style. We began by partnering with Weston Farms and Bowerbird Flowers to bring their magical touch to the design.

After a visit with Erin Weston at Weston Farms, we decided to flank the gorgeous fireplace with two non-traditional, magnolia Christmas trees! The simplicity of white florals and sparkling lights add to the elegance.

Natural wreaths and delicate florals by Bowerbird Flowers elevate this formal dining room for the season!

Who says a soft color palette can’t be holiday?  Adding layers of natural greens and florals, whether simple or elaborate, will always add that special touch.

To see the entire feature, please visit FLOWER magazine for more beautiful images and inspiration. The decorations may be a bit different in 2020, but the wish for peace and joy this holiday season is the same.

High Point Market :: Our favorite finds!

We are back from High Point Market and it was a whirlwind but a much needed design refresh! While it was vastly different from past markets, it felt good to be back!

We wanted to share our market round-up of what we saw that excited us most.

A great design is always grounded by a high quality rug and our friends at Nashville Rug Gallery did not disappoint! Elizabeth thought the new Oushak Kilims were perfect for soft yet colorful palettes.

Katherine Grace picked these lanterns from Ro Sham Beaux in a brass and copper combination – they came in many size and shape options!

We also stumbled upon some amazing accessories at Ro Sham Beaux. Crista loved these beauties and we think they are the perfect finishing touch for some of our coastal projects!

Kayla’s pick was in the Thibaut showroom. Thibaut is always a fan-favorite for unique patterns of wallcoverings and fabrics. This show was no different! In addition to their riveting pattern and color selections they have introduced a new trim line and we could not be more excited about it. Adding trim detail to any upholstered piece is a Southern Studio signature!

Haley loved the Laurent Bar in a Box from Century furniture! This bar cart is made with champagne shagreen embossed leather on a metal base and when it is not in use it looks like a large jewelry box!

This corner in the Arteriors showroom grabbed Paige’s attention! The various textures in the cubes and console but in a neutral color palette created an inviting corner!

Vicky’s top pick was this lush, deep sectional by Century. It was so large and comfy the team had to stop and kick back to soak it all in!

It was a great time back at High Point Market and we have missed shopping in person so much. We can’t wait to put some of our new finds to use in future projects!

Most Common Design Mistakes Made by First-time Homebuyers

We were recently featured on Redfin’s blog on common design mistakes that many first-time homebuyers make and how to avoid them. One of the most common mistakes we see could easily be solved with a little patience:

Rushing the process and losing sight of the big picture

In the excitement of purchasing a new home, oftentimes homeowners move too quickly without a big picture plan. Our best recommendation is to not make any significant purchases or begin any remodeling projects without having an overall plan and budget. Too many people give us a call when they get stuck after making bad and uninformed decisions, like that sofa they fell in love with that’s not quite the right size or the paint color that is just a shade off. Take the time needed to plan properly for long-term enjoyment. –Southern Studio Interior Design
