Inspiration in the Studio

Women of Western Wake (A Favorite Annual Event)

Each year we sponsor Cary’s Magazine‘s Women of Western Wake luncheon. It’s a beautiful event at the Umstead Hotel.  Why do we like this event?  Well, because…

…it’s a short escape from our fast pace to hear messages of inspiration and motivation from some impressive women who impact our local community.

…it’s an opportunity to invite a few women who help us in the studio on a daily basis. This year we enjoyed the company of a few of our vendor partners (and even one of our past interns).

…it’s a fabulous lunch at the five-star Umstead Hotel.

So thankful for this group of women! We couldn’t do what we do without them.

The Lazy Days of Summer...

Where did the summer go? Clearly, we’ve been focusing our energy on clients and trying to squeeze in some summer fun too….and neglecting this blog.  It’s time to catch up with a quick recap of our happenings in the studio (aka dumping our Instagram photos)!

We’ve been spending quite a bit of time on construction sites. Between remodels and new construction, there’s so many details to design.

To make sure we get it just right, a mini-home sample wall of the exterior materials is helpful.

This gorgeous oval framed room will soon be a gorgeous dining room. We can’t wait to bring this one to life!

aug10

We could not do our job without the help of our vendor partners and reps!  We were so thankful when the Kellex mobile showroom came to our parking lot!

aug9

And, when our Kravet rep arrived with the long-awaiting Kate Spade introductions, we were thrilled. There never seems to be enough fabric and trim…it makes no sense.

Our work often takes us on the road and on planes and on ferries.  It takes some juggling, but the challenges are part of the fun.

aug13

Shaw Floors wined and dined us at the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival in Atlanta. We so appreciate the Designer Network for the opportunity.

aug5

And, another trip to market in Atlanta included a nighttime ride on the ferris wheel!

aug8

Martha and I spent a weekend absorbing great inspiration at the Interior Design Summit in Denver. We’re so thankful for this group!

aug11

The biggest highlight of our summer was our incredible intern, Annie. She could teach a class on hard work, positive attitude and excellence. It was hard to say goodbye as she returned to school…

…just like it’s hard to say good-bye to summer (thankfully, we have a couple more weeks to enjoy). We promise to show a little more love to this blog this fall. For lots more behind-the-scenes happenings, be sure to follow us on Instagram too @southernstudio!

Highlights from High Point Furniture Market!

We’re finally beginning to recover from spring market in High Point. It’s always a whirlwind experience filled with rep meeting, new products, design trends, and of course lots of celebration. Today, Martha is featured in the Home section of Raleigh’s News and Observer spotting the latest trends. Check out the full article here.

We can’t wait to incorporate some of our favorite finds into new projects soon (very soon).

We absolutely loved the quality and brilliant colors in this new upholstery collection.

The new introductions from Thibaut are always a must-see! Let’s just say that the wall of flowers was an Instagram favorite of designers at market (including us)!

These were some amazing game tables…the perfect combination of quality and fun!

And, of course, lots of inspiration and new introductions from our consistently favorite furniture manufacturers (many of which are in our own home state). We’re so fortunate to live in North Carolina….it is the true furniture capital of the world!

We Won! Cary Magazine's Maggy Awards!

We are honored and humbled to take the top award for Best Interior Design Firm in this year’s Cary Magazine Maggy Awards!

The January issue of the magazine is filled with all of the local favorites (so many great restaurants and services). It was also exciting to be included in an Article on Life Advice by many of the winners. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years in this business, it’s that passion and hard work usually pay off….but, we could never do what we do every day without amazing clients and a fantastic team of vendors! 2016 is off to a good start!

Welcome 2016! Happy New Year!
