The Inside Scoop...from the Studio

The New World of Digital Publications with Southern Flourish Magazine!

As the saying goes, the one constant in life is change!  Over the past several years, we’ve lost so many great magazines. It seems that they are quickly being replaced by some wonderful on-line magazines….one just launched last Monday!  This week I read Southern Flourish Magazine cover to cover and it’s a new favorite. I have to say, flipping pages with my mouse is going to take some getting used to, but it’s so exciting to see fresh, new style!

The Home and Garden features are inspiring with great photography and interesting stories.  The Food and Travel section is a must read if you’re planning a trip to Charleston (one of my favorite southern cities). Add some fun fashion and this magazine covers it all. Take some time this weekend to relax and enjoy!

The Fan Deck…Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a splash of GREEN!

To celebrate the Irish today, the next color in the Fandeck Series is….GREEN!  This outdoor patio would be the perfect spot to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

Green is the tranquil color of nature.

Green is soothing, relaxing and helps alleviate anxiety.

Green represents renewal and harmony.

A splash of natural green in a neutral space can have great impact. Green is found so often in nature, it becomes soothing when incorporated into interior spaces.

How about this peaceful and inviting dining room to promote family harmony?

Or, if family harmony is lacking, retreat to this beautiful bedroom!

Enjoy the beauty of these longer days and the fresh new growth of spring.

May the luck of the Irish be with you this St. Patrick’s Day!

Southern Studio featured on The Good Stuff Guide: Home Tour Friday

Once again, a Southern Studio project is featured on the Home Tour Friday of The Good Stuff Guide website. For those of you not familiar with The Good Stuff Guide, it is a web resource for all things family! Every Friday, a fabulous home is featured on the Home Tour. It is an absolute honor to be in the company of so many outstanding designers, builders and architects.

Here’s one of the photos that is featured today. We completed this project a few years ago, but it continues to be a favorite. Many, many long hours were spent on this design…and it was worth every moment!  To see the entire feature, click here.

I thought it would be fun to visit some of the other homes that have been featured in the past on Home Tour Fridays!  I love this Basement Hangout in Colorado.

And this gorgeous Toronto living room. There’s something about the pale lavender walls that I find soothing.

Or this fabulous kitchen in Portland, Oregon. You know I love to design kitchens and this one is a favorite! I just love the glass cabinets stacked to the ceiling, the stunning pendant lights and the marble backsplash.

Thanks to Heidi Farmer with The Good Stuff Guide for her continued support of Southern Studio!  I’ll keep working hard to create more beautiful spaces, but every Friday….really?  I think I can, I think I can…..

The Statement Sofa!

I’ve been working with some clients (and dear friends) for over two years on their home. During construction, we focused on the living spaces and the design of the interiors. Since then, the basement has been finished with incredible attention to detail by the skilled hands of the homeowner. It’s an unbelievable space and they have done an amazing job!

The missing piece was a statement sofa for the saloon-style theme.  We worked diligently to custom design the unique piece. Once again, attention to detail has paid off!

We combined three different leathers….a beautiful hide, an embossed leather, and a textured leather….and then added the nailhead details.

Please forgive the bad color in my amateur photos (there’s a reason why I believe in professional photography), but the combination of leathers is incredible.

A very special thank you to our sales representative and the fine craftsmen at Classic Leather for their help!  We found our inspiration in the TAG collection….check it out. It’s always a thrill to challenge the design process!
